Copying is something that we see all the time in the world of video games, someone has an idea and it sells a shit load then numerous clones suddenly appear. Each one of these is normally a pile of crap that is just a shameless cash grab that is rushed out to get in on the latest trend with some poor schmuck buying it. Every so often, one of these games takes the basic formula of the original game and does the same thing but tweaks it ever so slightly improving it or as fun as the original game in question.

In this case, we have Fruity Puzzler created by RuWaMo Games who have made a fun clone of the famous Watermelon game which I am sure you may have seen called the Suika Game, which has recently had a paid multiplayer add-on for the price of £1.99. However, rather than pay for that add-on I decided to try my luck with Fruity Puzzler.
Fruity Puzzler has all the same mechanics as Suika where you match smaller fruit up until you reach the Watermelon, this time however it is sliced. The physics of the fruit is different and is a lot more bouncy making it a lot more random where it may land. The fruit can occasionally glitch and you will get a smaller piece that somehow gets stuck in a larger piece, but I have only run into this issue a couple of times and not in every game I have played. The gameplay seems to be a bit more forgiving, that is at least according to my 2nd born in her opinion. When you match the fruit it also gives off an amazing sound that produces a rush of endorphins that would crack a run for its money as the delightful little pop sound hits your ears.

I have mainly been playing the game in single-player and I have to say that whilst I enjoy the occasional game of Suika, this has stolen my time more than that game lately. But single-player isn’t where it is all at, as also included in the game for free is 2-player mode. In this mode, you face off in a ‘Battle to the Death’ for glory, honour and the bragging rights to say you are better than your friend, family member, pet dog or homeless person you dragged off the street to play the game with. (more about my new friend Gerald at a later date)

So okay maybe I stretched the truth it isn’t a battle to the death, but it is a contest until one of you fucks it up and then loses giving the other person the satisfaction to gloat about how they are so much better than you. (I hate my daughter right now!! I let her win, but she doesn’t believe me and refuses to replay me so I can destroy her and show her how bad she is at the game!!)

At the moment Fruity Puzzler is on sale for 89p instead of the usual price of £8.09, I would not buy it at that price and anyone who does needs their head testing. However, at 89p, or even at around £3, I would have no problem recommending this game to others. Fruity Puzzler is a fun pick-up and-play game that can be enjoyed anywhere in the home, (apart from the toilet in the 2-player mode you bloody weirdo!!) or out and about. Fruity Puzzler takes everything great about Suika and does nearly the same thing but slightly differently.
